We hope this will give you the much needed time to get it done. Sourcing prototype material can be difficult under these conditions. So we are ready with 3D Printers for you.

Bangladesh urgently needs a winning Ventilator design to save thousands of lives. Can you and your team come up with a concept in 3 days, which can be prototyped within 7 days?

If so, let’s join hands and beat the virus.

Prize money will be distributed after successful prototyping and achieving functionality.

  • Readily scalable; can be assembled in everyday workshops

FAQs

What is the objective of this contest?
Primary objective is to find a logistically, functionally and financially feasible alternative to the mainstream medical ventilator in the wake of COVID 19 breakout to help tackle it at grass root level.

Do I need academic or professional qualification to enter the contest?
No you don’t.

Can I work with a group instead of working independently?
Yes, please mention names of all team members. Please ensure that you have a cover page for your submission. Details of each group member are to be stated on the cover page.

How to register for this contest?
The competition is open for all and does not require a registration. You just need to provide us with the following details when you submit your design concept to designforlife@edgethefoundation.com

Is there any registration fee?
The contest is aimed to serve a humanitarian cause, so there is no registration fee.

Who can participate in the event?
Our contest is open to anyone who is a Bangladeshi citizen and over the age of 15.

Is there any specific guideline on creating the prototype?
It is a medical ventilator. You are not required to invent the prototype. You can use knowhow and content from books and websites. Please remember to cite your sources.

What are the parameters for testing the functionality of the prototype?
Your prototype should be:

– Quick to manufacture/assemble
– Cheap to manufacture
– Raw materials should be readily available locally
– Equipment should be easy to operate

Please note that clarity and quality of your presentation will also carry some score.

Who will be testing the prototype models?
A panel of distinguished experts will evaluate them; their names will be revealed at the end of the contest.

What is the deadline of submission?
Deadline of submitting the concept is
28 March 2020 (6.00 PM) (Extended)

If your concept is shortlisted and selected the deadline for submitting the prototype is 7 April 2020 (12.00 PM)

How will I know if my concept gets selected?
We will announce the winning concepts on
31 March 2020 (12 PM) (Extended)

How much time do I have?

  • 7 more days of time is allocated to prototype the shortlisted concept, 7 April 2020.
